Aluminum Now, a campaign of the American Primary Aluminum Association (APPA), seeks to highlight the critical importance of the primary aluminum industry. For more than a decade, global aluminum overcapacity decimated the American industry. From 2013 to 2018, the U.S. primary aluminum industry lost 62 percent of its production, whereas state-owned smelters in China, the Middle East, and in other Asian countries added 17 million tons of new capacity.
The U.S. aluminum market is responsible for over 10,600 American jobs and contributes over $6 billion in U.S. economic output each year. Aluminum Now is taking the lead on protecting this critical industry.
